The terrible earthquake in Tuesday last week turned Haiti, a poor American country into a rubble. After this historical disaster, many Haitians became homeless; many Haitian children became orphan because of the death of many adults. The parentless Haitian children wandering the streets of Haiti’s capital begging for food is such a pitiful image.
Children who witnessed the chaos in Haiti last Tuesday are now in vulnerable mood, especially who lost mother, father or even parents and relatives. And those orphaned before the earthquake will grow in the more difficult and desperate life.
There are 125 Haitian children living in the tents at the House of the Children of God Orphanage in Haiti. They are now facing the hard life without enough food, water and medicine. According to Pierre Alexis, the manager of the orphanage, they were very scared, and were kept in one place where the adults were in the centre and prayed together.
Many nations all around the world are now giving a hand to recover the Haiti’s damage after the earthquake. The US, the Dutch, the French, etc, are now willing to pick up the Haiti orphans. The Dutch government said that they did not simply help the children by bringing them to Holland to be adopted. The government would send a chartered plane to bring 109 Haitian orphans to local families at Amsterdam. About 50,000 children were living in licensed orphanages in Haiti when the quake hit. Six hundred of them were in the process of being adopted by American families.
Before the earthquake, Sherri and Mike Vanduzer, Colorado couple are in processing of adopt a seven-year-old orphan named Wilgencia. However the process seemed so long. The couple traveled several times to Haiti to see her. They did not find whether she was alive or not after the disaster and asked for multi media agencies to help. They want to reunite with the girl as soon as possible.
At present, child advocates are trying to convince the US government to immediately grant Haiti’s orphans called “humanitarian parole”, partly because the documents lost in the debris.
