The 'Book of Enoch' is one of the early Judean/Christian books that was rejected when the Bible was compiled, and was thought to be lost until three copies were found in an Ethiopian church, The 'Book of Jubilees' is a almanac listing and dating events with “year zero” set as the supposed year Adam was expelled from the garden of Eden. The 'Book of Jubilees' was also rejected when the Bible was compiled.
Enoch is more fun than the Christian version, although the Christians seem to have borrowed heavily from it. In Christianity, there are many grey areas that gloss over a subject, or there is a reference that does not seem to connect with anything else.
I began this commentary with Genesis and then I added the Book of Enoch and the Book of Jubilees. Then I added what is known about the history of Sumer, the area where civilization seems to have began, which is also the area where the early action in Genesis takes place.
I used the great flood documented in accounts of the history of Sumer to line up the different accounts. This is given as being between 2800 and 3200 BC. The account of the great flood in the Book of Jubilees is given as 1308 AM (Anno Munda, dated from the supposed expulsion of Adam from Paradise).
This places the expulsion of Adam from Paradise as between 4100 BC and 4500 BC. This is important because it is the beginning of recorded history. The accuracy of the early events, and, in fact, the accuracy of history ever since, cannot be verified.
Although there is evidence of civilisations beginning in other parts of the world at about the same time, Sumer is often accepted as the first definable civilization. The dating of the beginning of civilisation is about the time that the Book of Jubilees gives as the date that the Lord God drove “the man” from the Garden of Eden. What can be said is that between 5000 BC and 4000 BC, something major happened that caused the “human race” to go from virtually nothing to a civilisation with major buildings, wheeled vehicles, and a civil and military administration virtually overnight. Is it coincidence that civilisation begins at the time 'the man' was expelled from the Garden of Eden? I have no idea, but for the sake of a good story I will say “what if” and carry on from there. And is it possible to go back beyond the beginning of civilisation and put together what could have happened that brought the human race to the state it is in now? All that can be done is to put together a possible “pre-history” of the human race based on a possible explanation, if there is one, and put that forward as a possibility without claiming it to be true.
There are two versions of how this knowledge of prehistory came about that I have found so far.
The first is that the events were told to Enoch by God, and the second, given in the book of Jubilees, is that the creation myth was given to Moses by God immediately before Moses was given the Ten Commandments. But who was this God? That becomes a central question when the evidence is put together.
In the book of Enoch, there is a distinction between God and the Lord of the Spirits. This is a very important distinction, because if Enoch is correct, there has been a mix-up in who God was (is). In Enoch, the Lord of the Spirits is the spiritual El Supremo that Western society generally refers to as God, while in Enoch, God is a very definite physical entity.
In both Genesis and the Jewish Book of J. there are changes in the way “God” is used that suggest more than one entity.
Observe ye everything that takes place in the heaven, how they do not change their orbits, and the luminaries which are in the heaven, how they all rise and set in order each in its season, and transgress not against their appointed order. Behold ye the earth, and give heed to the things which take place upon it from first to last, how steadfast they are, how none of the things upon earth change, but all the works of God appear to you.
From a twenty-first century perspective, this seems to be a description of a spaceship in fixed orbit and that changes to the Earth are controlled by the occupant of the spaceship. . According to Enoch, the crew of the starship had the rank of Angels. The four command officers of the starship had the rank of Archangels, and their names were (are?) Michael, Gabriel, Rachael and Uriel. The commander had the rank of God.
In the description, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them,” it is explicit that there are male and female amongst the angels. There is no indication in any part of Enoch of the sex of the archangels or of God. It was probably of no importance since both male and female are included.
The crew was from a race that is immortal, and have developed advanced technologies and are spiritually advanced. They are not the universe, the ultimate creator, but have a very strong connection with, and understanding of, the creator.
There are several references to the immortality of the angels in Enoch. But you were formally 7 spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all the generations of the world.
What if “God” was/is the commander of a starship that visited our planet millions of years ago and played with the environment and created life forms? It could be a load of rubbish, but it would make a nice Hollywood screenplay.
And in the beginning, whilst our planet is still a mass of gasses, a starship comes into Earth orbit. The captain of the starship, “God,” supervises the conversion of this mass of primeval gasses into a planet capable of supporting life in the form of the crew of the starship. It seems that they spent a long time making the changes to this planet. Genesis says “God” did it in seven days.
But what is a day? We tend to think that a day has always been what we now call a day. But the Enoch Calendar, the one used in the Book of Jubilees, and the one that would have been in use at the time of the writing of Genesis, defines a day as one thousand years. It gets more complicated than that. It seems a day is the term for one thousand.
In the Enoch calendar, a week was seven years and a Jubilee seven weeks (forty-nine years). It could be more complicated than this. A day was one thousand years, a day of weeks seven thousand years, a day of jubilees forty nine thousand years and a day of days one million years, and so on, counting in sevens and thousands. It would be safe to say we do not know the length of “a day” as mentioned in Genesis, but it was not a day as we know it.
So over a long period of time, and probably by a process-guided evolution, this planet was made habitable and the life on the planet created.
It seems that looking after the creatures that God and the angels had created was hard work. They needed help. They wanted to take a day off now and then. So they created Man, a creature of the earth that could look after all the other creatures of the Earth. Since Man was to look after all the creatures of the Earth, it was only natural that man would be modelled physically after the immortals who had created it. Man was probably a physical clone of the angels.
At this point, the Lord of the Spirits comes into the picture.
The Lord of the Spirits decided to take the creation of God one step further and give it a soul and change its name to Adam.
Whilst the physical entity of Adam was created by the immortals, the soul belonged to the Lord of the Spirits.
'And they shall belong to Yahweh, And they shall be prospered, And they shall all be blessed. And He will help them all, And light shall appear unto them, And He will make peace with them. '
The distinction between God, the captain of the spaceship, and the Lord of the Spirits is present in both Genesis and the Book of J. In the Book of Enoch it is explicit. “And light shall appear unto them.” God and the angels created Adam physically, but it is “the lord of the Spirits” who turns the lights on. So we have the dual nature of the human race. The physical entity was created by the immortals, but our souls belong to the Lord of the Spirits. This is our dual nature, the physical and the spiritual.
'20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowls of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him. '
The soul of Adam was already in “the Garden of Eden,” in the centre of the brain. The task of Adam was to take care of the planet, the animals and the plants. Adam was the ultimate conservationist. But Adam, with external consciousness only, did what Adam did because it was Adam. Adam was conscious of itself only in relation to the world around it. It saw itself as part of everything around it.
Not only was Adam’s consciousness related to the world around it, but Adam was part of everything. The stories of Christianity and other early works tell of Adam being able to talk to the animals. There is a possibility that there is truth in this.
As caretaker of the planet, and being connected to the “Tree of life” as described in Genesis, it was possible that Adam had telegraphic powers to communicate and have dominion over the world. Adam was second in command on this planet, but it was not because Adam wanted to be. Adam did what Adam did.
It looks as if the Tree of Life is our connection with all things through the Lord of the Spirits, and that Adam had direct access to all life on this planet through a channel given to it by the Lord of the Spirits. In later times, this has been referred to as “the universal consciousness” or similar terms.
External consciousness would have been necessary for Adam to take care of the Earth, because whilst a bird does what a bird does, if Adam is to care for the bird, Adam would have be conscious of what the bird was doing.
From Adam came the human race. What was the difference between Adam and us? Although we are probably physically the same as Adam, we are a twin soul entity. That means we have an internal mirror and are conscious of being an entity separate from those around us.
How did this come about? The most likely explanation, if we follow the Enoch line of thinking, is that the Lord of the Spirits divided the soul of the human race into two, each half being identical to the other. The result was that each soul seeing the other could see itself, and we had an internal mirror and knew ourselves from within as an individual entity separate from external factors. This is the same explanation as in Part One of this book. The only real difference so far is whether the God referred to is God as we usually know it, or the captain of an alien spaceshipship. Now Yahweh put the man into a deep sleep; when he fell asleep, he took a rib, closed the flesh of his side again. Starting from the part taken out of the man, Yahweh shaped the rib into the woman, returned her to the side of the man.
“This is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh,” said the man. “Woman I call her, out of man she was parted.” So a man parts from his mother and father, clings to his wife: they were one flesh. And look: they are naked, man and woman, untouched by shame, not knowing it.
The use of “Yahweh” seems important because The Book of J. moves from “God” to “Yahweh” and back again, and seems to draw a distinction between the two, adding weight to the idea that they could be two entities. It is Yahweh (Lord of the Spirits) that turns the lights on and divides the souls. “life” is the alternative translation for the word “rib” used in Genesis. Up until now, this has been reasonably standard Genesis—apart from the entity of the physical creators—but from now on the skimpy detail of Genesis begins to fill out. What happened next could be a lesson to anyone who advocates cloning.
Adam was the caretaker of the planet. It was not unreasonable to believe that the human race would continue to be the caretakers of this planet after becoming internally conscious. Adam did what Adam did, and there was no reason to suppose the human race would not just continue to do what Adam did, except that it would understand that it was doing it.
But an error had been made. Our twin souls gave us internal consciousness, but they had also given us the ability to think. We may have been given directions through the Tree of Life to look after the creatures of this planet, but we had the ability to decide if we wanted to follow these directions.
5 Now the snake was smoother-tongued than any wild creature that Yahweh made. “Did the God really mean,” he said to the woman, “you can't eat from any tree of the garden?” “But the fruit of the trees we may,” said the woman to the snake. “Just the tree in the middle of the garden, the God said. You can't eat from it, you can't touch without death touching you.” “Death will not touch you,” said the snake to the woman. “The God knows on the day you eat from it your eyes will fall open like god’s, knowing good and bad.” (Bloom & Rosenberg, 1991)
The result was a new species that appeared to be a clone of the immortals, but was in reality a new breed. It had a mind of its own. It had a mind of its own because it did not have the heritage of the immortals. It looked like the immortals, it had the same physiology as the immortals, but it did not “feel” like an immortal.
It had free will and rejected the control of the immortals. If it had been allowed to develop, it would have made a take-over bid for the universe. The human race had the power but not the maturity.
God was angry with us. And the Lord, coming into paradise, set His throne, and called with a dreadful voice, saying, Adam, where art thou? and why art thou hidden from my face? shall the house be hidden from him that built it?
When it began to judge, its internal mirror fractured. The twin souls began judging each other and disintegrated into the soul and the ego and began an internal battle that continues to this day.
Not only that, but because of its connection to everything through the Tree of Life, it caused havoc in the world and may have even come close to destroying the world. Instead of being part of everything, it might have even come close to taking over everything. It could have usurped the Lord of the Spirits within a very short time. It would have had the power of gods without the understanding of how to use it. What could be done about this total foul-up? The first thing was a piece of reverse genetic engineering.
24 So he drove out the man; and he is placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubins, and a flaming sword which turned either way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Our internal consciousness was moved from the centre of the brain to the east (right) side of the brain, and we were cut off from the animals and the Tree of Life. This meant that we were cut off from the power of the Lord of the Spirits. This was meant to be a temporary measure.
The expulsion of Adam from the Tree of Life changed everything. It seems that Adam, being caretaker of this planet, and Adam’s connection with all things was an essential part of the whole system. When we invented judgment, the whole system fell apart. Talking to the animals may or may not be factual, but it serves to illustrate the importance of Adam in the overall system. Never trust a human not to make a judgment.
Plan B was for the twin souls to reincarnate whilst they learnt and matured, and as each pair of souls learnt the lesson of learning to be together without judging each other, their powers would be restored and they would regain there immortality. They would not be the same as the immortals: they would be independent. But when they had reached a level of maturity, they would live in peace and understanding with the immortals.
Since we had been created, the entity that had created us decided what path it wanted us to follow. We were supposed to follow the path of peace and prosperity. And so a training program was instigated to train us to follow the path of peace and prosperity until it became part of our heritage. We would be trained to know who we were supposed to be. The immortals temporarily took over control of the planet whilst we learnt who we were being trained to be. We had to work for a living, growing our own food, but all in all it would have been a pleasant, peaceful life.
That was the plan and it would have worked, except for a second mistake. It seems that it was not only humans that could not be trusted. There were some amongst the angels who were also prone to going it alone.
The spaceship had to leave on a mission to go boldly where no immortal had been before. It left behind two hundred angels to look after the human race. These two hundred immortals were in twenty groups of ten immortals each. Each group had a specialty and they were supposed to use their special talents to help and guide the newly formed human race.
'And these are the names of their leaders: Samîazâz, their leader, Arâkîba, Râmêêl, Kôkabîêl, Tâmîêl, Râmîêl, Dânêl, Êzêqêêl, Barâqîjâl, Azazel, Armârôs, Batârêl, Anânêl, Zaqîêl, Samsâpêêl, Satarêl, Tûrêl, Jômjâêl, Sariêl. These are their chiefs of tens.'
These two hundred angels were called “The Watchers.” Their job was to watch over the human race.
But there was a problem. It seems that whilst the immortals may not need sex to breed because they are immortal, they do enjoy social sex and can breed.
'3 Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children 4 of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons? And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood as those also do who die 5 and perish. Therefore have I given them wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget 6 children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. But you were formerly 7 spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling.'
The two hundred immortals took human women as their wives and the human women became pregnant and gave birth to giants and monsters. These giants and monsters bred themselves and ran rampant over the planet. They killed and destroyed everything they could before becoming cannibalistic. It is suggested in Genesis that the giants were the basis of the tales about “sons of God” roaming the Earth.
AND IT came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face, and daughters were born unto them. 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
“In the days of Jared” places the arrival of the watchers between 4040BC and 3090BC, but Enoch learnt from the Watchers as a child and the birth of Enoch was 522 AM, or about 3990 BC. The Watchers probably arrived between 3050 BC and 4040 BC, if the dates are to fit in with the Book of Jubilees.
There is a 400 year tolerance in the dating of the Great Flood of Sumer, so all the dates in Part Three can be shuffled as a block over a period of 400 years. One of the immortals named Azazel taught the human race how to make weapons and wage war on the giants, and the whole planet degenerated into a total mess. He also taught the women to wear makeup and jewellery. This is the event that has really messed up the human race. We were not supposed to learn about weapons and war. It is this that has stopped us from going forward to our immortality. Instead of peace and prosperity, we now had a heritage of war and suffering.
When the spaceship returned, the archangels seized the two hundred angels and put them in captivity. Enoch interceded on their behalf, but the archangels would not listen. Instead, Enoch was taken to see God. God told Enoch that it was the Watchers who were supposed to look after the humans, not the humans look after the Watchers.
God (not to be confused with The Lord of the Spirits) ordered that the angel who had taught the human race how to make war (Azazel) would be tied up, blindfolded, and thrown into a pit in the desert. The pit was then filled in and covered with rocks. He was to stay there until the final judgment.
The other Watchers were imprisoned in a place surrounded by fire. They were to be kept there until a day of judgment. They were to be imprisoned until the Lord of the Spirits judged them. It seems from the writings that only the Lord of the Spirits had the power to destroy souls.
It is made clear in the book of Enoch that the responsibility for this mess lay solely with the Watchers, who became known as the Satans. Enoch was shown the future that would culminate in the sorting out of the souls of the human race and the Watchers into the righteous and the unrighteous. The righteous would be restored to paradise and the unrighteous destroyed.
'1 And after that my grandfather Enoch gave me the teaching of all the secrets in the book in the Parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book 2 of the Parables. And on that day Michael answered Raphael and said: “The power of the spirit transports and makes me to tremble because of the severity of the judgment of the secrets, the judgment of the angels: who can endure the severe judgment which has been executed, and before 3 which they melt away?” And Michael answered again, and said to Raphael: “Who is he whose heart is not softened concerning it, and whose reins are not troubled by this word of judgment 4 (that) has gone forth upon them because of those who have thus led them out?” And it came to pass when he stood before the Lord of Spirits, Michael said thus to Raphael: “I will not take their part under the eye of the Lord; for the Lord of Spirits has been angry with them because they do 5 as if they were the Lord. Therefore all that is hidden shall come upon them for ever and ever; for neither angel nor man shall have his portion (in it), but alone they have received their judgment for ever and ever.'
Again, the human race was not to blame. It was the Watchers who taught us warfare. “My grandfather Enoch” seems to suggest that the Book of Enoch could be the work of Lamech, the father of Noah.
God then told the archangel Uriel to prepare Noah, the great grandson of Enoch, for a big flood that would destroy the Earth. The angels then built a large boat for Noah, his sons and their wives, and life of all types that were to be the beginning of new people. In the book of Enoch, it is the angels who built the Ark, not Noah.
Then said the Most High, the Holy and Great One spoke, and sent Uriel to the son of Lamech, and said to him: “Go to Noah and tell him in my name "Hide thyself!" and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. And now instruct him that he may escape and his seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world.” And again the Lord said to Raphael: “Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dûdâêl, and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. 'And on the day of the great judgment he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.” And to Gabriel said the Lord: “Proceed against the bastards and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle: for length of days shall they not have. And no request that they (i.e. their fathers) make of thee shall be granted unto their fathers on their behalf; for they hope to live an eternal life, and that each one of them will live five hundred years.” And the Lord said unto Michael: “Go, bind Semjâzâ and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgment and of their consummation, till the judgment that is for ever and ever is consummated. In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: and to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever. And whosoever shall be condemned and destroyed will from thenceforth be bound together with them to the end of all generations. And destroy all the spirits of the reprobate and the children of the Watchers, because they have wronged mankind.'
The idea that the problems of the human race came about because of Original Sin is totally groundless according to the evidence of Enoch. It was the “Watchers” that introduced war. The sin of sex was the sin of the Watchers in mixing the genes of the human race with the genes of the immortals that produced mutants. Enoch, having achieved maturity, stayed with the immortals as the first true human. '24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.'
There is a long time between the imprisonment of the Watchers and the great flood. The way it appears is that Noah was chosen because he was a newborn at the time of the Watchers. It seems that a collection of newborns were isolated from the human race to keep them free of contamination from the teachings of the Watchers. Then the great flood would destroy the giants and the contaminated human race, and Noah and the others would begin Plan B again.
The angels caused a flood that destroyed all life on the planet, except those on the boat. It was necessary to get rid of the giants and monsters, but this way was over the top. Because the giants and monsters were in part immortal, the spirits of the giants could not be destroyed. They are immortal. The spirits of the giants and monsters still roam the planet. According to the book of Enoch, the bodies of the giants could be destroyed but their spirits are immortal and can’t be destroyed until the Lord of Spirits destroys the souls of the unrighteous at the last judgment.
At this stage, the Universe (the Lord of the Spirits) stepped in and ordered that such methods would never again be used against the human race. This was the first time that the Universe (Lord of the Spirits) had overridden the immortals.
The Great Flood may not have been worldwide. It may have been sufficient to destroy the Giants, but not everything that lived on the earth. There is evidence from the history of Sumer that a great flood occurred somewhere about 3200 BC.
Archaeologists excavated the ruins between 1923 and 1933. Digging to virgin soil, 60 feet (18 meters) below the top of the mound, the expedition found remains of several cultures, from Neolithic times to the Christian Era. A band of alluvial soil about 40 feet (12 meters) below the surface indicated that Kish had been flooded in about 3200 BC.
Many take this to be evidence of the great Biblical flood.
The Lord of the Spirits came up with Plan C. The human race would continue to exist without interference and would continue to be mortal and limited in its powers. The souls would continue to reincarnate and hopefully learn the lessons that the human race needed to learn to take its place alongside the immortals. The lesson to be learnt is to develop a sense of self based on caring and support of others.
Unfortunately, the flood did not destroy the Watchers’ knowledge that was not supposed to be possessed by the human race.
1 In the twenty-ninth jubilee, in the first week, [1373 A.M. my calculation] in the beginning thereof Arpachshad took to himself a wife and her name was Rasu'eja, the daughter of Susan, the daughter of Elam, and she 2 bare him a son in the third year in this week, [1375 A.M.] and he called his name Kainam. And the son grew, and his father taught him writing, and he went to seek for himself a place where he might seize for 3 himself a city. And he found a writing which former (generations) had carved on the rock, and he read what was thereon, and he transcribed it and sinned owing to it; for it contained the teaching of the Watchers in accordance with which they used to observe the omens of the sun and moon and 4 stars in all the signs of heaven. And he wrote it down and said nothing regarding it; for he was 5 afraid to speak to Noah about it lest he should be angry with him on account of it.
Arpachad was the son of Noah’s son Shem, so Kainham was Noah’s great grandson. From the dating of Kainam’s birth, about 3130 BC, it seems likely that this event took place shortly after Kainam became a young adult.
According to events I have been researching, there seems to be another by-product of the flood; evil spirits.
8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon 9 the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; 10 they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless 12 hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.
If this is true, we have ended up worse off than before the flood. Before we had giants, now we have evil spirits. The flood was for nothing. The knowledge we were not supposed to have followed us. This gives the answer as to the sense of self the creator had in mind for us when we were designed. The answer is given in the negative. We were not supposed to have weapons. We were not supposed to know the concept of warfare. We were not supposed to kill. Whoso sheddeth man's blood by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God made He man
This suggests that God, whichever god Jubilees refers to, created man in its own image and gets most upset when its creation is killed. Physically killed, of course; the souls continue on. And so do the evil spirits.
“And we were left, I and you, my sons, and everything that entered with us into the ark, and behold I see your works before me that ye do not walk in righteousness: for in the path of destruction ye have begun to walk, and ye are parting one from another, and are envious one of another, and (so it comes) that ye are not in harmony, my sons, each with his brother. 27 For I see, and behold the demons have begun (their) seductions against you and against your children and now I fear on your behalf, that after my death ye will shed the blood of men upon the earth,
We really do have a problem here. Because two hundred aliens took a fancy to the woman of the human race, we have inherited a genetic memory of violence and war. We are seduced by demons that came from the souls of the offspring aliens and humans, all helped along by “God,” who made several mistakes. It is easy to see how the Jewish and later the Christian religions could mistranslate this into blaming women for the problems we have. I guess that could be true if being attractive is a sin.
All seem to lead towards a future sorting out of souls into those who have learnt not to judge and those that have not.
